Environment
As a company, ScanCom recognises that the future of its business depends on a healthy and sustainable environment. Consumers and environmental groups worldwide are concerned about global forest loss. We understand that forests are the long-term source of the raw material we need. They are also of critical importance to the people that depend on them for their livelihoods and the rich biodiversity they support.
Fully committed
At ScanCom, our commitment to the environment goes well beyond the internal policy of ensuring our own ‘triple bottom line’. We want to ensure that all our operations are Environmentally appropriate, Socially beneficial & Economically viable, and in line with the standards of the Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSCTM). But, we also work in partnership with our suppliers and our customers to promote best practice right through our supply chain.
Our environmental commitment comprises policy, strategy, activity and partnership to achieve measurable results that have a positive impact on the world’s forests.
ScanCom International’s environmental policy demands that the timber materials we use in our products comes from one of three sources:
Forests already certified under the Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSCTM) principles for well-managed forests;
Forests that are implementing an action plan to achieve this goal, or;
Forests that, through our involvement and independent verification, can be encouraged to reach these high standards
Our responsibility
We recognise that as one of the world’s largest suppliers of outdoor furniture, ScanCom has a responsibility to work with our suppliers and encourage them to improve their forest management. This is a dynamic process, in which ScanCom sees the value of partnering with forest managers progressing towards certification. ScanCom also understands that increasing the area of well-managed forests is as important as working with established certified sources.
Over the last 10 years, the size of our company has grown and so has our environmental impact. We have set targets for ourselves to make sure that we can be a positive force in the critical forest habitats of the world.
