Obligations
ScanCom has acknowledged that by being a market leader in the outdoor furniture
sector, it has a number of obligations and responsibilities. These fall into four
categories:
To our workforce and our supply chain
We need to remain a viable and sustainable company across all aspects of the triple
bottom line – environmental, social and economic. We take our corporate social responsibility
very seriously and monitor our progress both internally and through independent
3rd party inspection.
To our statutory and legal obligations
It goes without saying that we must abide by the laws in the countries in which
we operate. However, for any company working globally, it is important to be constantly
vigilant about additional local conditions and requirements. Also, for a company
exporting and moving products around the world, there are rafts of ever-changing
international rules and regulations and we need to remain abreast of these developments.
To our customers
The underlying principles of serving our customers on key issues such as quality,
design and delivery remain at the core of our business. It is difficult to prioritise
when everything is equally important. We know that our reputation, and that of our
customers, depends on meeting consumers’ needs in a timely manner. Our investments
in our environmental policy, and ensuring the sustainability of timber, have to
serve these objectives.
To our internal policy guidelines
We have clearly set our own guiding principles within our environmental policy,
outlining ten measures to ensure we meet our obligations. This covers our commitment
to international standards and the pursuit of best practice in all environmental
and social issues.
To our partners and membership organisations
Through our membership to FSCTM and the WWF Vietnam Forest & Trade Network, we have
signed up for all the voluntary commitments associated with membership. These are
a reiteration of our internal policy but have the added weight of being independently
verified on a regular basis. This external audit process ensures that we maintain
our standards and helps our internal processes stay focused.
