ScanCom brings home CSR Abroad Award 2014

ScanCom International A/S triumphs at prestige Danish CSR Fonden Conference, winning inaugural 2014 CSR Abroad Award!

ScanCom triumphed at yesterday’s Danish CSR Awards, winning the inaugural 2014 CSR Abroad Award. The awards ceremony was part of the two day CSR Fonden conference held at the prestigious Musikteatret, Holstebro, commending Danish companies and celebrating their success in combining business with social responsibility.

After being nominated with 30 other companies, and selected for the final shortlist of three, ScanCom took top spot at the ceremony. Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd., India and LM Wind Power, India were commended for their outstanding achievements in CSR, but ScanCom was chosen for its strategic CSR plan and exemplary compliance with international standards of social, environment and economic development.

Recognised by the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, ScanCom was praised for its special efforts promoting corporate social responsibility and sustainable development within its business and with its partners in Vietnam

The award represents the hard work and dedication that ScanCom has put into CSR over many years as an integrated part of the company’s strategic plan. ScanCom puts CSR at the forefront of its business and has a worldwide team committed to maintaining its high standards across its entire business.

As a company, ScanCom complies with many factors of CSR focusing on health and safety, social compliance and the environment. In 1998 ScanCom received FSC® certification, becoming the first manufacturer in Vietnam to achieve this, and has maintained this certification since then. The supply chain of FSC® certified wood is backed up with owned saw mills in Brazil, as ScanCom want to secure long term sustainability.

Along with FSC® certification, ScanCom complies with the following:
- BSCI Code of Conduct
- UN Global Compact principles
- ISO 14001 standard for environmental management system
- REACH regulation for restricted substances
- OHSAS 18000 standard for occupational health and safety
- SA 8000 standard for social accountability

Not only driving CSR internally, ScanCom is responsible for developing contract manufacturers and partners locally and has set up annual audits.

According to ScanCom CEO, Stig Maasbøl “This CSR Award is an important recognition of our long term commitment to CSR, as this is deep in our company DNA and part of our business model. Sometimes it can be easy for the organisation to give up on certain CSR aspects, such as when you lose a contract to a competitor who is NOT “Doing Business the Right Way”. ScanCom does not compromise on these factors, and believe we will triumph in the end.

We are very humble and grateful for winning this award and it will definitely be shared with our many global employees and business partners, who are the real winners. All companies who respect themselves highly have CSR as one of the main focuses in business, but making it action-oriented and implemented with suppliers in emerging markets is often difficult.”

The award will certainly encourage ScanCom to continue its drive to maintain their high CSR standards and also further develop themselves as well as their partners. Corporate social responsibility is core to “Doing Business the Right Way – The ScanCom Way” at ScanCom and long may it continue.
