ScanCom’s 2022 – A Year in Review
Heading into a new year is, for many, connected with a reset and new start, perhaps connected to personal hopes, wishes and resolutions for a better and (slightly) different future.
For others, it is a time to reflect and take stock of what has come to pass, and how it will shape the immediate future – perhaps even with ideas for an adjusted approach personally or professionally, going into the New Year.
For ScanCom, and the ScanCom family, it has been a year of both joys and adversity across our Global operations. We have celebrated some great successes, breaking new ground for recognition and sustainable developments, while also marking very special milestones. We have unfortunately also experienced difficult times and challenges, most acute of which was when we unfortunately lost three of our dear colleagues in a terrible accident – something never will or should forget.
With the approach of the New Year however, we would like to take the opportunity to share some of the key positives from what has simultaneously felt as a very long and very quick 2022.
A Reset from Covid
We have shared the highs of beginning the year with the ‘Grand Opening’ ceremony of our Aluminium Operational Excellence Centre in Vietnam, coinciding with a visit from the former Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and the marking of 50 years of collaboration and diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Denmark.
ScanCom Vietnam could also be pleased about the ‘re’-launch of our lauded and successful Management Trainee Programme in its second iteration, having been forced by Covid to postpone the programme’s ‘second season’.
Back to Fairs and ‘Winning Ways’
In 2022, ScanCom and our brand, LifestyleGarden®, also returned to attend some of the many large trade fairs for our industry after a number of years. Across Europe and Asia, our teams went to Solex (UK), Vifa (Vietnam) and Spoga (Germany) to present our developments and innovations in high design and sustainable outdoor furniture.
We also celebrated some great achievements in recognition and awards, having won the Solex ‘Best Sustainable Development’ for the Nassau Range in Social Plastic® (more on that below), as well as the prestigious Red Dot design award for our Stream Chair, in the category ‘Product Design’. Amazing achievements shared between our colleagues and teams all over the world!
Sustainable Journey – from Supply Chain to Market
As alluded to above, we also launched our latest development in sustainable materials to market in 2022. Social Plastic® - in partnership with our supplier, Plastic Bank – was integrated as a sustainable, ethical material choice for our LifestyleGarden® brand, completely replacing the virgin plastic option and truly delivering on our sustainability goals with recycled materials! A great step in our continued sustainable journey.
Very Special Celebrations
Finally, 2022 allowed ScanCom to mark some very special celebrations.
In November, our offices in Song Than, Vietnam had the distinguished and distinct pleasure of welcoming His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, for a visit as part of the official Royal Danish Visit and Business Promotion Tour in the country.
His Royal Highness enjoyed a brief tour of the ScanCom Showroom – including a presentation of (and chance to sit in) the Stream Chair, the first product born directly as a result of the 2021 ‘HRH Crown Prince Frederik International Business Award’ ScanCom received. Finally, His Royal Highness was presented a few key business and HR initiatives, before having a lunch and continuing on His busy schedule.
Last, but certainly not least, 2022 was also the year we could celebrate the milestone anniversary of 20 Years of ScanCom do Brasil! Since 2002, ScanCom do Brasil has been a key cornerstone in ScanCom’s vision for sustainably and ethically sourced wood, as a central material in our innovation, design and production, as well as a valued part of our Group business and supply chain.
A final - but important - note, before the clock strikes midnight and we enter the New Year, is to send a big 'thank you' to all ScanCom colleagues, partners and friends all around the world!
Remembering the longevity and hard word that the ScanCom Group has put in over the years is a fitting way to set our hearts and minds on the right path for more success and hard work to come – here’s to 2023 from the entire ScanCom Family!
