We are overjoyed to share that – for the second year running – a ScanCom design have been awarded with the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design!

The ‘Mica’ daybed is a playful, innovative and colourful new piece for our LifestyleGarden® brand concept, inviting for both social engagement and solitary leisure in great comfort. With moveable backrests and a practical, moveable side table, the ‘Mica’ offers up to 12 different configurations.

Reflecting on the award our in-house designer, Alex Christensen, shares:

“I am beyond thrilled at the achievement we have made in the team. We have shown what we are capable of when we push together as a unit – after all, anything we do in ScanCom is only as good as the sum of all its parts. For me and everyone involved, we can be super proud of this product and the Red Dot Award it won.

We started on the idea of more 'free' living as a concept – with the intent to provide a product that could give people a feeling of openness and personalization of their space. This meant we needed function, space, and smart design. In the end, we really wanted people to feel like they have their own 'hygge' corner that they can arrange to best fit their own personality."

He goes on to elaborate a bit on the story behind the design, and how he visualises the use, depending on the needs of the owner:

"With multi-positional backrests and a multi-positional, rotating table, we invite the user to play with their daybed and engage in more than just sitting down.

The wide space and multi-positions allow us to use the daybed in a multitude of ways, giving us a chance to explore what is possible in our homes. Just imagine with this daybed, we can watch a movie on the laptop with a friend. And how about being in solitary indulgence before work with an espresso on hand, quickly updating ourselves on the most recent news? Maybe a quiet, contemplative afternoon with a good book – Or even a brief session of creativity on the tablet.

The story is essential that we lead many lives within our own every day – and our spaces need to accommodate those ever-changing needs and moods."

ScanCom's work with the key strategic pillar of Design & Innovation is an important element in our philosophy in creating our desings, and receiving a Red Dot Award for our efforts two years in a row is a great achievement and indicator of this being a correct direction as we keep raising the bar on our design journey. Adding another recognition to the hard work of our own Design Team is a big win for ScanCom as a whole, and we look forward to having the MICA coming to our markets in 2024 and ahead. A big congratulations to the MICA-team, from everyone at ScanCom.

About the Red Dot

The Red Dot Design Award looks back on a history of more than 60 years: in 1955, a jury met for the first time to evaluate the best designs of the time. In the 1990s, Red Dot CEO, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, developed the name and the brand of the award to what we recognize today. In 1993, a further separate discipline for communication design was introduced; followed in 2005 by another one for prototypes and concepts.

The Red Dot stands for belonging to the best in design and business. The international design competition, the “Red Dot Design Award” is aimed at all those who would like to distinguish their business activities through design. The distinction is based on the principle of selection and presentation, with each excellent design selected by a competent jury of experts in areas of product design, communication design, and design concepts.
